About Us

Class Hockey was established in 2005 under the name ‘Sport Xcel’.  In 2014 the name was changed to ‘Class Hockey’. During the early years the company established its core values and solidified its place in the market of hockey coaching through a synergy of:

  • Experienced Olympic and International players and coaches
  • A commitment to making learning fun and enjoyable
  • A relaxed environment but an expectation that both players and coaches push themselves
  • The understanding that everyone MUST have a desire to improve

Co-founders Nick Thompson and Jo Ellis are both Olympians with 320 International caps between them. They have competed in 4 World Cups, two Commonwealth Games and six European championships, winning medals at major tournaments.

Their passion to deliver first-rate coaching, share their knowledge and encourage the next generation is palpable. They want to make a difference and have a positive impact on young people.

As exciting as it is to see their young players achieve junior and senior International success, their aim is much overarching:
Life throws challenges at everyone sooner or later. At Class Hockey we want to help nurture and build resilient young adults that can transfer the skills required to play team sport into all aspects of their life. It’s about equipping, not just equipment.

This ambition, alongside the quality of the coaching, makes players return time after time and want to feel a part of the ‘Class Hockey Family’ which is now 1000s strong.

Why choose Class Hockey

inspired progression

CH has grown in numbers every year since it launched and sessions are always in high demand. Its basic principles are based on quality coaching that ensures progression and inspires a love to learn more.

international players

The coaching team are always of a high pedigree and we guarantee every camp features current and ex-International players.

learn from the best

Having played at the highest level and been exposed to the best coaching and playing environments in the world is certainly of benefit, however, good players don’t always make good coaches. That is why we carefully select the coaches to ensure they also have the ability to impart their knowledge in a way our young players can understand and relate to. They are also charismatic role models who have an equal passion for life, people and the game of hockey.
