Sandie is one of the most decorated players of all time, winning trophies and medals at both club and International level. Her career spanned 12 years at Senior level; eight of those as captain. The highlight of her early years was playing on the hallowed turf at Wembley Stadium in front of thousands of screaming supporters. Although she did not achieve her childhood dream of scoring, she did captain the team and assist Mary Neville in scoring hers. In 1983, Sandie played in her first of four World Cups and in 1991 was part of the first ever European Gold medal winning side in Brussels.
Bradford Hockey Club was Sandie’s first team and after graduating from PE College she joined Ipswich Ladies HC. She played and coached at Ipswich for over 30 years and gained European Qualification on four occasions in both indoor and outdoor competitions.
She was a member of the BBC 5 Live team at the Athens Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games in 2002, where she supported our very own Jo Ellis. Sandie has appeared on the well renowned Question of Sport quiz on two occasions as part of Bill Beaumont’s team and thoroughly enjoyed the after-show entertainment along with her brothers!
Sandie has pursued a career in teaching and has always enjoyed the thrill of seeing young players improve. She states that this is one of the main reasons she loves being part of the inspirational Class Hockey team.
